GARETH Wiseman a fourth year student at Primet High School, Colne, pulled off a major success on Sunday when he won the English Schools Cycling Association National Criterium Championship at Southsea, near Portsmouth.
Six-foot one-inch Gareth, who is still only 15, broke away from the main field along with a rider from Warwickshire on the fifth of 25 laps of a one-kilometre closed circuit. He then easily distanced himself from his breakaway companion to win the title by 200 yards.
The previous day Gareth had taken bronze medal position in the ESCA 10-mile championship on a nearby course clocking a time of 26 minutes 39 seconds in tough conditions. Gareth rides in the Pendle Forest colours.
