TURF Moor chief Adrian Heath has made a fresh offer to Portuguese club Boavista in a bid to land big centre-foward Bambo.
The deal to land Bambo stalled this week but Heath revealed: "I've made another offer by fax today to Boavista and I'm still very hopeful we can buy the player.
"We are doing a bit of sparring over the deal and I hope to have some more news early next week.
"The player is still extremely keen to join Burnley and, hopefully, we can overcome this stumbling block."
Heath, though, has agreed a fee with a First Division club for a midfielder and hopes to announce his second major signing on Monday following the capture of Nigel Gleghorn from Stoke City.
While refusing to reveal the identity of his target, Heath added: "The lad has experience in the Premiership and the First Division and is a good footballer. "I have agreed a fee with his club and he would be a welcome addition to Burnley. I am not yet in a position to reveal his identity because I don't want to alert any other clubs."
Meanwhile, Clarets midfielder Warren Joyce has agreed a two-year contract with Third Division Hull City after a £30,000 deal was finally struck last night.
Hull manager Terry Dolan immediately appointed Joyce as Boothferry Park skipper and said: "He has the experience necessary to take on this role and do it well.
"He was the player we were waiting to get hold of for the role of captain."
Joyce's days at Turf Moor were numbered when Adrian Heath made it clear the player was not in his long-term plans by offering him a one-year deal in May.
And when Hull made a further enquiry for Joyce after spent a successful two-month loan spell at Boothferry Park at the end of the 1994-95 campaign, a move to Humberside was always a strong possibility.
Joyce added: "I have played for one or two managers who have done a few things in the game but I've just not got on with them. "I am keen to play for Terry Dolan because I know what to expect having played there before."
Signed by former boss Jimmy Mullen, Joyce arrived at Turf Moor in July 1993 after a £140,000 deal from Plymouth Argyle. He will be best remembered for his goal in Burnley's 3-1 play-off victory over Plymouth Argyle which booked Burnley's Wembley appearance in 1994.
Burnley have added an extra fixture to their Northern Ireland tour schedule. The Clarets have agreed to play Coleraine at the Showgrounds on Saturday, July 27 (7.00 pm). Heath added: "Coleraine were left with a fixture to fulfil their planned opposition pulled out. We have agreed to play them."
Heath has been given the all-clear to start light pre-season training following his recent ankle operation. The Turf Moor chief explained: "The specialist has told me I can start a bit of jogging. I'm hoping to get fit if needed, but really I'm looking for other players to do the job on the pitch."
Heath has still not given up hope of signing former Norwich City midfielder Jeremy Goss. The Wales international has spoken to Charlton but Heath revealed: "I'm still waiting to hear from the player."
