IT was with absolute disgust that I read that Janet Anderson, our supposed Labour MP, voted to accept a 26 per cent increase in salary.

As a pensioner and lifelong member of the trade union movement and Labour Party, I am appalled at the hypocrisy of those who voted against the Government's call to MPs to accept a three per cent rise - when they know that other workers and pensioners are tied to increases in line with inflation.

What makes them think that they are so special as to be worth an increase of 26 per cent?

Can we now assume that all other workers and pensioners, who have had restricted increases over the years, can now expect a substantial increase in line with MPs? I doubt it!

Perhaps at the next election the voters of Darwen and Rossendale will make their feelings known.

I intend to return my Labour Party membership card to show my disgust.

We are left with Hobson's Choice - to either vote Tory Right or Labour/Tory Left, both with their noses in the trough.

ARNOLD LLOYD, Woodlands Grove, Darwen.
