A 1,000 name petition failed to persuade councillors to pull down a listed Georgian mansion house.
Magistrate Mrs Marjorie Smith collected the signatures to call for the derelict council-owned Oak Hill Park Mansion, Accrington, to be demolished and not to be rebuilt as flats.
The petition objected to the principle of private homes within a public park and claimed the development would lead to road safety problems.
