DRAINAGE and resurfacing work could create motorway misery for holidaymakers from East Lancs this week.
Traffic chaos is expected as various closures will be made from today to rectify problems along the busy M6 stretch from Samlesbury to Broughton during the July holiday fortnight for Blackburn.
The Department of Transport said that it would not change dates as it wanted problems with drainage works and a bumpy road surface completed in time for August Bank Holiday and the start of the Blackpool illuminations in September.
The DoT assured drivers that delays would be kept to a minimum with a ban on any weekend work when the majority of holidaymakers head for their destinations.
Different section closures will be made between junctions 31 and 32 until 3.30pm on Friday July 19.
The northbound hard shoulder of the M61 near Blacow Bridge will also be closed during the week.
