I WAS bemused by Hyndburn MP Greg Pope's recent comments, slamming local residents for having an opinion about the future use of land occupied, in part, by the former Huncoat Power Station.
He attacks them for being 'negative.' What is negative about wanting to preserve the green fields which have been used for agriculture since Domesday?
His sources seem to have misled him - an indication, perhaps, of the misinformation locals have been fed by the Labour council.
The land in question has never been power station land, but is green grass. It is not 'contaminated' and certainly not in 'need of treatment.'
The cows which use it have never complained, nor the walkers and children who make use of it.
Three cheers for the long overdue removal of dereliction inside the power station site, but a big thumbs down for the crazy scheme to redevelop the cleared area at all costs, including with it ten hectares of fresh green fields.
Get your facts right, Greg, before you condemn locals who have to suffer the loss of these fields to see them replaced by empty industrial units. We actually LIVE in the area!
