TOP marks have been awarded by the Blackpool Fylde and Wyre Society for the Blind to two primary schoolboy boffins for their invention of an ingenious weighing machine.
Ten-year-olds Chris Walker and Adam Bolton-Heaton, of Norbeck Primary School in Thornton Cleveleys, designed and built the battery operated mechanism which buzzes when the required weight of 300 grammes is reached, for use by the visually impaired.
The boys' class teacher Simon Collinge said: "Both Chris and Adam have been enthusiastic about their project.
"They have shown off their enormous technological skills and competence."
Headteacher of Norbeck Primary School, Ray Fisher, said: "I find it interesting that both boys saw a need for people less fortunate than themselves."
Last week Chris and Adam demonstrated their machine to two members of the Society for the Blind, Martin Begg and Carol Holmes, and were awarded certificates for their achievement.
Information officer for the society, John Hewitt-Dean, said: "What an absolutely ingenious machine these two young boys have invented.
"Everyone involved with the society really appreciates Chris and Adam's wonderful gesture."
