THREE Christian Aid supporters are off on the trip of a lifetime to find out how the fruits of their fund-raising are being put to use.

Cath Greenlees from Longton, Shirley Farrier of Farington Moss and Trevor Cook from Walton-le-Dale will travel to Uganda this month to see first-hand how money from door-to-door collections, coffee mornings and jumble sales is being used.

They are part of a ten-strong team from the North West going to Uganda with Christian Aid.

Cath Greenlees, a part-time teacher at Hutton Grammar School, said "When I was offered this chance, I snapped it up.

"It promises to be a memorable trip. I am interested in meeting the people and seeing how the money is put to use. We have had a great deal of support from the local parishes and many people have sent gifts for the Ugandans."

During their tour they will see how money is helping fund partnership projects in the country including a Uganda Women's Finance and Credit Trust which encourages women to set up businesses.

The group will also visit a cattle re-stocking project in war damaged Soroti and the Rukararwe Partnership Workshop for Rural Development in Bushenyi.

This is the first visit made by a local group to the area and they hope to promote awareness and create a more personal link for future projects.
