RETIRED lifeguard Adrienne Haythornwhite, 61, has been clocking up 22 miles in the pool to raise cash for charity.
Mrs Haythornwhite, of East Crescent, Accrington, was taking part in a national Channel Challenge spearheaded by sports celebrities Sharron Davies and Barry McGuigan to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Arthritis and Rheumatism Council. She used Hyndburn Sports Centre for her swim and had around £150 in sponsor pledges.
Mrs Haythornwhite is a former lifeguard at Darwen Leisure Centre and taught swimming at Darwen and Shadsworth sports centres. She said: "I have swum in the past for different charities and it also helps keep me fit."
