A JET-SETTING student from St Annes is spending her summer holidays on an expedition to the Arctic.
Sarah Robinson, 18, will join around 80 other teenagers on the six-week experience in Svalbard, which is midway between Norway and the North Pole.
While in the remote area, which has 24 hours of sunlight each day, Sarah (pictured) will be studying soil and vertebrates.
Sarah, of Headroomgate Road, was picked from more than 400 applicants for the expedition.
Although Sarah is very interested in science, her only experience quite like this was taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, which includes an expedition on a smaller scale.
She said: "I am very excited, although I am worried about physical fitness - there will be a lot of trekking to do.
"Svalbard is mainly tundra, but towards the middle of the island there are glaciers where I hope to be able to do some skiing."
