PRETTY Jane Danson was almost scarred for life after riding her bike into the path of a car.

But ten-year-old Jane was saved by a cycle helmet that her mother, Jill, had bought hours earlier at a car boot sale.

Jane, of Ribchester Road, Wilpshire, broke her leg and needed stitches to her neck when she collided with the car after coming out of a side street off Knowsley Road, Blackburn.

Her face is also badly bruised but doctors have said that the former Lower Darwen Primary pupil will make a full recovery. And now her mother Jill has warned other parents to make sure their children wear cycle helmets at all times.

"The helmet was scratched and grazed and if she had not been wearing it she would have been a right mess, " said a relieved Jill.

"In the past she would never wear a cycle helmet. but we went to Longridge and I got her this black one.

"I made her wear it when she got home and as soon as she went out on her bike she had the accident. I think it must have been fate."

Jill stressed that the driver of the car was in no way to blame for the accident.

She added: "With the school holidays here, this might act as a warning to others."
