FOOTBALL'S coming home to Colne and fans are to be given the chance to see some premier soccer silverware up close.

The FA Carling Premiership Trophy, held by Manchester United, is touring pubs across the country. One of the 'fixtures' will be at the Morris Dancers pub, Byron Road, Colne, where the trophy will be given pride of place for one evening only on Monday.

The Dancers is believed to be the only pub in East Lancashire to receive a visit. A spokesman for the organisers said the visit was organised as a way for Bass Taverns to say 'thank you' to pub manager John Crow and partly because the pub already had a soccer night organised.

The trophy will form the centrepiece of a football extravaganza planned for the night, which will include a chance for soccer fans to test their wits in a quiz with a £50 first prize. There will be runners-up awards of T-shirts, pens and footballs.

Customers will also get the chance to be photographed with the Premiership trophy, although security is expected to be tight.

John said: "We're delighted the country's most famous football trophy will be coming to Colne, particularly to our pub. We're sure the evening will provide an excellent start to the new football season."

The pub, opposite Colne Cricket Club, is the base for many committed football supporters.
