WOMEN are being given extra help and advice to set up their own businesses or find jobs, thanks to a new centre in Nelson.
Every Opportunity is the name of the new careers and business advice centre which opened in Every Street on Monday.
The centre, run by Gwen Parr and Angela Kehoe, aims to encourage women to broaden their job outlook. Studies show far fewer women in Pendle set up in business compared to men or go into job areas such as science and engineering.
The centre was set up thanks to Pendle Partnership's successful bid last year for Single Regeneration Budget cash.
Kath Belton, principal of Nelson and Colne College and chairman of the centre's management committee, said: "Every Opportunity is an exciting prospect which will open up new avenues for women in Pendle as well as filling some gaps in the local labour market."
Angela Kehoe, the centre's careers advisor, added: "We want to create a friendly and informal atmosphere where women can explore new ideas and build up their confidence, particularly if they have not worked for some time."
