CYCLIST Alan Gornall struck gold as he helped the English team to scoop one of the country's first medals in the Commonwealth Games.
Alan, 26, led the team across the finishing line in Edinburgh in the 100 kilometres team time trial, a massive 94 seconds ahead of silver medallists New Zealand.
It was the biggest success so far in the Clitheroe cyclist's career as England successfully defended the title it won in Brisbane four years earlier.
