JOHN STANWORTH today admitted that Lancashire face a battle to save their Cardiff championship clash.
With Glamorgan skipper Matthew Maynard intent on beating the Welsh County's record total against Lancashire off 475 set at Old Trafford last year, Lancashire were set for an uphill task to avoid the follow on.
Stanworth said: "What worries me is that I think this wicket will turn. They are in the box seat after winning the toss and batting well.
"They have done to us what we did to Derbyshire last week and we'll have to bat well in response."
Mike Watkinson and Gary Keedy both found plenty of help from the pitch on the first day, although neither got a wicket after Watkinson had Gary Butcher caught behind with his third ball.
Glamorgan have off-spinner Robert Croft and England Under 19s slow left-armer Dean Cosker, who is making his first team debut, and Stanworth has identified them as the main threats.
It was another tough day for Lancashire's seamers on a pitch similar to the ones they have struggled with at Old Trafford all season.
But there was brighter news today.
Maynard and Tony Cottey were finally parted at 359 when the latter fell victim to Peter Martin.
Martin then dismissed Shaw too as Glamorgan moved to 360 for five.
