A YOUNG Scout worker who has just returned from two international conferences has been chosen to help get the voice of youth heard worldwide.

Claire Schofield, 20, of Whalley Road, Langho, was one of four young people chosen from throughout Britain to represent her country at the 34th World Scout Conference in Oslo.

She was part of a delegation of 12 from this country to the huge gathering where 800 people from 108 countries met to discuss the future of the Scouting movement.

Just the week before , Claire had also been a British representative at the World Youth Forum, also in Norway.

Now she has been chosen as one of five young people throughout Europe to help set up an international network to collate ideas and views and keep Scouts all over the world in touch with one another.

Claire, a history student at Worcester College, said: "Going to the world conference was exciting and so enjoyable. "I had been invited as part of a move towards youth participation and I made so many friends from all over the world."

Claire, has been a member of the Langho Venture Scout group and, since she was 16, has been part of the national venture scout team.

Now that she is 20 she can no longer be a member of the local group and has become a member of the Scout Fellowship so that she can keep her involvement in the Scouting world.

She added: "I still like to get involved at a local level and I will be visiting Bowley during the international visits this summer, but I am also very much looking forward to working for the Scout movement on a much wider, international level."
