TRAVELLERS to India can save time and money with visas issued on-the-spot when a team from the Indian High Commission visits Blackburn.

The service has been organised for the third successive year by the Indian Workers' Association.

The team will be at Bangor Street Community Centre, Blackburn, on August 3 between 9.30am and 4pm to issue tourist and one year business visas.

"Nearly 300 people from all over Lancashire made use of this surgery last year and a similar number is expected this year" said association general secretary Ibrahim Master.

"Everyone who wants to travel to India and is a non-Indian passport holder will require a visa to enter the country.

"It is a good idea for anyone needing a visa to travel to India this winter, to use this service.

"Usually they have to travel to either Birmingham or London in person or send their passport off in the post, which many people are reluctant to do as it often entails a wait of up to three weeks.

"It can also save travellers money, because travel agents often charge for this service"

Applicants should first check with the High Commission office in London tel: 0171 836 8484 for current visa regulations and requirements.
