LINKS between East Lancashire's aerospace industry and Europe have been strengthened by two high-profile visits to the region.

The Consortium of Lancashire Aerospace spearheaded a visit by commissioner Martin Bangemann to British Aerospace's site at Warton where he met members and heard about the CLA's plan of action in Europe. Mr Bangemann, responsible for industrial affairs, information technology and telecommunications, is also one of driving forces behind the EC's Aeronautics Task Force, an initiative which aims to protect and expand Europe's aerospace industry. He was given a presentation by Dennis Mendoros, chairman of the Clayton-le-Moors-based CLA.

"Obviously we are delighted to be able to instigate such a high profile visit to the region," said Mr Mendoros, of Euravia Engineering of Kelbrook.

"The consortium is proud of its achievements so far in Europe and we are looking forward to future progress following the encouragement received from Commissioner Bangemann."

The CLA was also involved in arranging a tour of member companies last week by Euro MP Mark Hendrick, including Hurel-Dubois, Rolls-Royce and Weston.
