A LANCASTER man miraculously escaped serious injury after he was crushed between a car and a skip at Salt Ayre tip on Saturday. A car drove into the back of Peter John Morse, of Ashford Road, while he was loading rubbish into the skip trapping his legs against the skip barrier. As the bronze coloured car pulled away Peter toppled to the ground and a doctor who happened to be passing rushed to help.

He was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and was later treated for a fractured knee cap.

Peter, who's just retired after 25 years as a caretaker at Moorside School, said: "I saw the car coming towards me and I thought it would stop but it didn't. It was revving up. The pain was terrible when the car hit my legs and I was jammed against the skip barrier. A doctor rushed over to help me and I wanted to thank him although I don't know his name."

Peter, 54, who has been active all his life and enjoys walking with his grandsons was amazed he wasn't more seriously hurt.

"My legs look really thin but they must be quite strong. When I was younger I used to play football and cricket so my bones must be quite sturdy," added Peter.

His wife Elaine was sitting in the car when she heard her husband screaming.

She said: "I heard the car revving up and my husband screaming and saw him trying to push the car away from him. It was awful and I still keep having nightmares about it."

The couple said they were still hoping to go away on holiday to Blackpool at the end of the week.
