CHIEF executive of the Guild Park in Goosnargh, has vowed to re-think the procedures by which patients of the Langdale unit are granted leave.

His announcement comes after a woman on leave from the unit was charged in connection with the kidnap and assault of a taxi driver, absconding with a six-year-old boy and killing a dog (see page 9).

Les Howell said security at the hospital had always been good and that no one had absconded before. But he admitted that the criterion by which patients of the medium secure unit were granted leave would be looked at.

He admitted: "The woman had been having periods of leave before that.

"We are certainly looking at our procedures again."

The Langdale Unit is home to 26 patients, many of whom have been sent there by the courts.
