DETECTIVES investigating the callous murder of Lowton divorcee Shirley Brown have extended their house to house inquiries in an attempt to net the killer.

And Detective Supt. John Waterworth, the man leading the seven-week long hunt for the culprit, is confident the killer will be caught.

Shirley, 46, was strangled at her home in Allerby way, Lowton, in the early hours of Saturday, June 8,

Police are certain someone is covering up for the killer who left quiet-living Shirley lying dead on her bed.

A scream was heard coming from her home at about 4.30am, around the time police believe she was killed.

Two men carrying holdalls were seen shortly afterwards walking along a road close to the murder scene.

Supt. Waterworth commented: "Someone must know if a member of their family was missing from home between 4am and 6am that morning.

"Once again I appeal to anyone who can recall a member of their family missing during that period to come forward so they can be eliminated from the inquiry or if they can give information which may be vital to the investigation.

"We still have a heavy police presence in the area and will continue our house to house inquiries which have now been extended.

"I can assure whoever committed this crime we will not be scaling down our investigation until the killer is caught."
