CYCLISTS around Pendle are getting ready to ride the range to raise cash for leukaemia research.
The local branch of the Leukaemia Research Fund is organising a Bikeathon, a 26 mile fun run in and around Pendle, and wants 1996 to be the best one yet.
Organiser Linda Crossley said the Bikeathon committee were hoping to get 250 cyclists to join the ride on September 8. It is hoped to raise around £6,000.
Said Linda: "We want folk to get back on their bikes. The route is very pleasant and is the same as last year. We leave the college at Barrowford and ride towards Barnoldswick, across the Roman road to Gisburn Road and back down through Blacko. Entrants are asked to complete two laps to complete the full 26 miles."
The last three Bikeathons in the Pendle area have raised well over £12,000 through sponsorship and attracted an average of 200 cyclists.
As well as individuals and family riders, pubs are also being invited to enter teams. The Old Bridge at Barrowford currently holds the record for raising most cash through £600 worth of pedal power.
