TYLDESLEY are speeding into the 21st Century. They will become one of just 50 Rugby Clubs in England with a Internet Home Page on the World Wide Web.

Details are still to be finalised but it is thought the new page promoting the club and town should be available on the information superhighway before the season starts at the end of August.

Club secretary Howard Hughes sees this as a chance to promote the club's activities to a wider audience and foster links with other clubs throughout the world.

"There are very few English Clubs on the Web," he said. "In fact, only three from the North West out of about 250 clubs. So we see ourselves as pioneers!"

The net will lead to more international matches for the club.

"I've recently been in contact with a Canadian club side who are planning a tour to England in 1998," added Howard. "Tyldesley may well become a stopping off point for them and many more."

Meanwhile, work is continuing to improve club facilities prior to another campaign in the Lancashire & Cumbria League Division One. Training is on Tuesdays and Thursdays with former Wigan and Great Britain player Billy McGinty putting the squad through professional paces.
