TWELVE eyesore sites in Burnley are to be spruced up and transformed into green spaces at a cost of more than £88,000.
Work begins at the former Bank Hall club, Colne Road, on Monday (August 5), and all sites will be complete by the end of the year.
The improvements are part of the council's open spaces project. Cash is coming from the government's regeneration agency, English Partnerships.
"All the sites have caused problems to local people for many years," said Susan Barker of the council's environment team.
"Some are awaiting development but others are neglected and unsightly. The area will benefit because it is made more attractive to people who might want to come and live or set up business."
Other sites include the former Fulledge chapel on Todmorden Road and the former Empress cinema.
