A SLICE of Lancaster life is set to hit the small screen this autumn as one local restaurant gets its 15 minutes of fame. Sun Street eatery Ma Cuisine and owner John Noon have been selected to take part in a new series of nationwide television programmes charting the history of eating out. And last week a London-based film crew arrived in the city to hear the Ma Cuisine story and put the spotlight on Mr Noon at work in the kitchens of the French restaurant he opened with partner James Beamer last year.

Salon culinaire Mr Noon explained: "A businessman who had eaten in the restaurant was talking to one of the members of the production team and he told them about us because he knew they were looking for a high-class restaurant in the North.

"They sent a film crew up here for a day and filmed me at my home, picking up fresh lobsters from the Smokehouse at Glasson Dock and then at the restaurant.

"I wasn't really nervous but at one point during the interview I laughed and they had to do about eight takes. I really enjoyed the experience."

John learned his trade in some of the country's top hotels, including London's Savoy. He will now take his place on the screen alongside some of the country's most famous chefs, including Anton Mossiman, in the as yet untitled series

The show's producer Gavin Weightman said: "The idea behind the series is to provide a social history of eating out and John is in the show about new restaurants.

"We liked his story because he has aimed quite high and is trying to offer what is almost a London-style restaurant in the middle of Lancaster."

The show, a joint venture between Granada and London Weekend, is set to hit the screen in the autumn.
