THE WORK of a tireless fund-raiser who tragically lost her battle against breast cancer is set to continue in her memory.
Eileen Haworth, of Warrenside Close, Wilpshire, Blackburn, died after battling the illness for five years.
Eileen, 49, attended the Breakthrough support group which meets at Beardwood Hospital, Blackburn, every month, and worked as a counsellor for other patients with cancer.
Together with Ruth Loft, of Blackburn, she helped found the Blackburn branch of the charity which researches the disease.
Eileen, mother of Mark, 14, and wife of Robert, was diagnosed as suffering from breast cancer in 1990 and was treated with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Now her work in dreaming up charity events to raise cash for Breakthrough is set to continue.
Ruth Loft said: "Despite her handicap and distressing cancer treatment, Eileen continued working at the nursing home and fund-raising for Breakthrough.
"She never missed an opportunity to help and support others. She was amazingly cheerful, and fought a brave fight.
"We are going to continue the crusade against breast cancer in Blackburn, and I am sure that is what Eileen would have wanted."
Eileen's husband said: "She was a truly remarkable lady and everybody has said that.
"I am only just beginning to realise in just how high an esteem she was regarded by so many people.
"I am very proud of her and the work she did, but that doesn't soften the loss of her."
