INTREPID people across East Lancashire have been urged to take on the ultimate challenge.
Organisers are hoping the Chairman's Challenge will provide a giant boost to the £1 million SuperScan appeal.
SuperScan chairman Mike Trickett is encouraging people to take part in any of four disciplines, ranging from a severe test of fell walking to cross country rambling, swimming and cycling.
FELL WALKINGCROSS COUNTRY RAMBLE
A little more leisurely. The challenge is to walk about 15 miles along the Pennine Way starting from The Buck in Malham - sign in the book in the public bar, giving time and date - climbing up past Malham Scar, round Malham Tarn and Fountains Fell and eventually over Pen-y-Ghent to drop down into Horton-in-Ribblesdale and sign off in the book in the bar of the Crown Hotel.
The time allowed should not exceed 12 hours. If the weather is fine and clear the views are tremendous.
SWIMMINGCYCLING
There are four local routes, each of about 25 miles. They have been selected for the combination of countryside views and testing terrain. The route, with the time of three hours, will provide a pleasant yet testing experience.
All the routes are circular and entrants may start/finish at the most convenient point for them on each route.
The discipline is not aimed at the dedicated time trialist, but more as a famly afternoon ride.
When filling in the application form, please notify which route you wish to enter.
They are ROUTE A: Darwen, Edgworth, Hoddlesden and Tockholes. ROUTE B: Blackburn, Ribchester and Stonyhurst. ROUTE C: Clitheroe, Rimington, Gisburn, Bolton-by-Bowland, Waddington and Bashall Eaves. ROUTE D: Burnley, Cliviger, Worsthorne, Trawden, Colne and Brierfield.
To apply for any of the challenges fill in the application form available at any reception area of your local hospital or Lancashire Evening Telegraph office. They should be posted to the SuperScan Appeal office at Queen's Park Hospital, Blackburn.
People will then be sent details of their selected event and the official SuperScan sponsorship form.
