MIDDLESBROUGH have again slammed the door firmly shut on any suggestions that Nick Barmby could be on his way to Blackburn Rovers.
There is known to be a long-standing Ewood interest in Barmby but a Boro spokesman said: "It's just pure speculation, Nick has come here for the long term.
"He was bought for the future of Middlesbrough and he has a big part to play in that future.
"There's no way we would be selling a player of his quality." Rovers are bound to be linked with a host of players, in the wake of Alan Shearer's departure.
Jack Walker made it clear last night that money is available and would be spent if the right opportunity arose.
But, unless something dramatic happens to change the situation, they are not likely to rush into any major deals just yet.
In the meantime, the chance is there for players already on the staff to stake a claim.
