THE HINE family have a double reason to celebrate today, with the golden wedding anniversary of Doris and Jimmy Hine and the birth of their third great grandchild.
Doris, 82, and Jimmy, 81, of Redearth Street, Darwen were married 50 years ago today at St John's Church, Darwen.
They met while Jimmy was on leave from the Army and visiting his sister, Dot, who had moved to Darwen.
Love blossomed and the Golden pair will be raising a toast to themselves and their brand-new great grandchild Carol Louise, who was born on Thursday.
Jimmy, who worked as a contractor at Mullard's, Blackburn, before his retirement, said: "The secret to a good marriage is plenty to eat, a good roof over your head and a pint or two!"
The couple's children, Colin, Susan and Kevin, will be joining the celebrations along with their three grandchildren and other two great-grandchildren.
