ALLAN Donald annihilated Accrington to smash a 10-year-old Marsden BS Lancashire League record on Saturday.
The Rishton professional had a sensational seven-for-three return as Accrington were humbled for just 18 runs - the lowest score since the league adopted limited overs cricket.
It was seven runs less than the previous record, a meagre 25 registered by Haslingden against Church in May 1986 and six of the Accrington batsmen were dismissed for ducks, as Donald and John Seedle (three for six) routed the bottom team in the table.
But there were no excuses from Accrington cricket section chairman Peter Barratt, despite such a depressing day for his club.
"Donald was just too good for the batsmen," he said. "He bowled fast and straight and pitched it up and they didn't have an answer to him."
It wasn't Accrington's all-time lowest score. Several clubs have been rolled over for single-figure scores in the old days - including Accrington! In May 1927, they made just nine runs at Lowerhouse in a league game.
