ADRIAN Heath is ready to launch a dramatic bid to land a Premiership striker.

The Burnley boss was keeping the identity of the star target firmly under wraps today.

But he is a big name who would be sure to set Turf Moor alight.

I understand Heath has already held preliminary talks with the player.

And, while cash could prove a major stumbling block, Heath is hoping to put together a package in a brave bid to land his man in time for the big kick-off at Luton Town on August 17.

The striker is currently out of favour with his club and that has alerted Heath who is in the market for a dangerous front man.

"I'm looking at bringing in a striker and, ideally, I would like to think I would have another two faces on board for the start of the season," he confirmed.

"I'm exploring a number of options and one of those is a striker who has experience in the Premiership.

"It's not a secret that we need more firepower alongside Kurt Nogan. That is an area I'm concentrating on now.

"I'm hoping to make further progress this week."

Burnley continue their hectic pre-season build-up against Third Division Chester City at the Deva Stadium tonight.

But it is unclear whether new signing Vince Overson will make his Clarets debut. Heath added: "He's suffering from a slight thigh strain so we'll have to wait and see whether we risk him."

Meanwhile, Burnley wrapped up their pre-season tour to Northern Ireland with a satisfactory 0-0 draw against Belfast side Crusaders on Saturday.

It means Burnley returned to Turf Moor unbeaten from their five-fixture trip to the province having scored 13 goals and conceded none.

"The tour proved a major success and I was delighted with the reaction from the whole squad," said Heath.

"It was the ideal preparation for the new season. Crusaders proved good, hard opposition."

The industrious Burnley boss will run the rule over two new triallists who are expected to arrive at Turf Moor this week.

Heath has arranged for an unnamed Malawi international to train with Burnley.

While a Yugoslav Under-21 star is expected at Gawthorpe before the weekend.

"They both come highly recommended and we'll have a really good look at them," added Heath.

"The lad from Malawi is a regular member of the national team and he has attracted the attention of Borussia Dortmund.

"He wants to play in England and continue his Business Studies course, so we'll check him out."
