DISABLED drivers who felt they had been snubbed by the Mayor of Burnley at a carnival have been promised a visit.

Tony Palmer, executive committee member of the East Lancashire group of the Disabled Drivers' Association, said:

"We couldn't get a float for the carnival so we brought along some of the scooters and a car and trailer.

"But the Mayor and Mayoress didn't look at us. They just went straight past.

"We have written a letter to express how we feel because we were all quite upset about it."

The group is currently fund-raising to buy a fully accessible coach to help the group get out and about.

The coach will also be offered to other organisations when the association is not using it.

Tony said: "We went to Blackpool for a flag day and we could not have had a nicer reception. The Mayor came across and joined in."

When the Lancashire Evening Telegraph contacted the Mayor, Coun Peter Swainston, he said: "I am sorry if they felt we had snubbed them.

"I remember seeing the scooters when we were judging the floats and I am sorry they got that impression.

"I will contact them to apologise and arrange to meet them personally."
