TEN YEARS AGO: A VILLAGE was standing by for an invasion of 200 motorway construction vehicles a day.
The tippers were to rumble through Altham as they carted thousands of tonnes of old colliery waste from Huncoat to the M65 extension at Barrowford.
A village spokesman said today: "If there is a serious accident it will be on the conscience of the powers-that-be."
