VOLUNTEERS are needed to help spruce up the canalside for next week's Leigh waterworld canal rally.
Clean up campaigners say hundreds of visitors are likely to descend on the town between September 1-8 and they want to ensure that the stretch of canal between the Waterside Inn and Butts Bridge provides a welcoming environment.
Leigh Soroptimists have already pledged to help, and the council's People and Places manager, Teresa Jennings, has asked canalside businesses to do their bit as well.
Now Teresa is calling on volunteers to help out on Saturday, August 31, when a major clean up is to take place.
Anyone who can help should go to the Waterside Inn at 10am. All equipment will be provided.
Teresa said: "It is vital to create a good impression for the hundreds of visitors who will be mooring up for the canal rally.
"The more people who are able to help, the better the picture they will take away of Leigh."
