PUT your best foot forward and join in an historic walk to celebrate a special moment in time.
Darweners will be slipping into their walking boots this Sunday, ready to march across Darwen Moor to mark the centenary of public access to the local beauty spot.
Stepping out from Darwen Town Hall at 10.15am, the walkers will set out on a two-mile route to Darwen Tower.
Once they get there, Darwen MP Janet Anderson will unveil a carved stone plaque to commemorate the event, watched by the Mayor of Blackburn, Councillor Mary Leaver.
The walk is open to everyone and organisers are hoping for a large turn-out. Transport can be arranged for the elderly and disabled.
Councillor Malcolm Doherty, Blackburn Council leader and Celebration '96 Committee, said: "This is an important event in the borough and Darwen's history.
"I hope as many people as possible will participate in the walk and celebrate this historic event."
All those who complete the walk will receive a special certificate and have the opportunity to raise cash for the SuperScan Appeal by getting sponsored. Forms are available from the SuperScan office on (01254) 687146.
