THE stars are coming out to face the might of A Citizen football team!
Champion charity event organiser Tony Cartwright has once again rallied a feast of TV and sporting celebrities to entertain local folk.
The guest list so far includes Warrior from TV's Gladiators, Grease star Shane Richie, Brookside's Max Farnham and Mick Johnson, Hollyoaks heart-throb Jambo, and a few former footballing greats. But the Citizen's very own sporting stars hope to score more in the match on September 8 at Duke Street Sports and Social Club, Chorley.
Our team features the finest from the Preston, Blackburn, Lancaster and Blackpool Citizens.
The team is training hard for the match and currently plays in the Blackburn Rovers Seven-a-side League every Thursday.
Player Gordon McCully, a reporter on the Preston Citizen's sister paper in Chorley, said: "We'll give the stars a tough time. We're in with a good chance, even if they have Warrior in goal. We have fought hard all season to beat the team from the Citizen's sister paper the Lancashire Evening Telegraph - they finished bottom instead of us!" Proceeds from the friendly match will go to the Citizen's appeal for the Lancashire and Lakeland Cancer Unit at the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley policeman Kevin Keeley's soccer coaching scheme for local children.
