MP Gordon Prentice says old folk have a right to security and independence in later life - he was speaking during a visit to residents of St Clements Court in Barrowford.
The MP also gave his backing to Anchor Trust's 'Manifesto for Older People' which recommends a raft of policies to meet the aspirations of older people.
In Pendle, 26 per cent of voters are over retirement age and 60 per cent are over 40.
After his visit, Mr Prentice said: "I was left in no doubt that older people value their independence above all and we need policies which will help them stay active and in their own homes with access to the care and support they need."
