POLICE are urging members of the public to beware of conmen posing as water board officials following a circular which has been issued to every home by North West Water.
The leaflet describes how re-zoning of water will be taking place on September 23 and 24 and police now suspect that some people may call upon more vulnerable homeowners, such as the elderly, and trick them into thinking they had been sent to check the water pipes.
Police have confirmed that legitimate water board officials will only be calling at people's homes in emergency cases and they will come in North West Water vans and have official identification.
The message is that unless you are absolutely certain of their identity, you should not allow anyone into your home.
