PIONEERING education organiser Molly Hudson will long be remembered for her ground-breaking work.
The former Marsland Green School head teacher, who died last February on the eve of her 80th birthday, was the country's first adult education centre head in charge at Atherton and Tyldesley.
Atherton born Miss Hudson pioneered adult literacy courses and at one time the two centres catered for over 3,000 students. She also organised classes at Hindley Borstal and started a brass band there which was a huge success.
In 1974 she became area principal for adult education and in 1975 she was awarded the MBE for her pioneer work. She retired the following year.
Paul Grainger, vice principal of Tyldesley's Upper George Street Centre, unveiled a plaque as a tribute to Miss Hudson's 28 years dedicated service to adult education.
