LANCASTER was packed to the rafters this weekend as the city held its most successful Georgian Legacy Festival yet. Visitors from all over the country joined locals in enjoying the many themed attractions and events staged over the Bank Holiday weekend as historic Lancaster took a step back in time to the year 1803.
David Wright from Lancaster Tourism, one of the event's organisers, said: "It went fantastically well. By Friday afternoon we were packing the Judges' Lodgings, the Cottage Museum had very high visitor numbers and the recreation of the Assize Court in the Castle was extremely popular."
And one of the star events of the festival just keeps getting bigger and bigger. The national Sedan Chair Carrying Championships, held at the Grand Fair on Bank Holiday Monday, attracted interest from all kinds of places this time around.
Television and radio stations along with many national newspapers covered the event which was won for the second time by The Scholars.
David Wright added: "This is a unique event which gives people the sort of entertainment they can't get anywhere else."
