TONY Greenwood was appointed the new manager of Accrington Stanley today.

The former Bamber Bridge boss will take charge of tomorrow's Unibond league clash against Runcorn at the Crown Ground.

The 39-year-old replaces Stan Allan who was sacked earlier this week.

Greenwood was the man who masterminded Bamber Bridge's rise through the non-league ranks and said today: "The potential at a club like Accrington is enormous.

"It's a famous old club, known throughout the country, with a loyal and passionate fan base."

Accrington's director of football Brent Peters said: "What Tony achieved at Bamber Bridge was nothing short of sensational. We are delighted with the appointment."
