TURF Moor's shooting star David Eyres is 50 not out!
And there is the fruitful promise of plenty to more come from a player enjoying a fresh lease of life at Turf Moor.
Eyres will take the number three shirt when Burnley face Mansfield Town tonight with the Clarets eager to increase their aggregate lead.
A thumping 3-0 first round, first leg victory at Field Mill a fortnight ago has left Burnley casting an eager eye over a lucrative second round tie when the Premiership big guns join the competition this week.
Eyres was on the mark at Field Mill and followed that up with the Burnley's opening goal against Walsall - his 50th senior goal in the claret and blue since arriving at Turf Moor from Blackpool four seasons ago.
"Since I've become manager I couldn't have asked for more from David Eyres," said Heath. "When you look at what he's done for Burnley you'd have to say it's been money very well spent."
Eyres' emergence as an attacking left-sided wing-back has given Heath extra options in his new defensive system.
"He's given me everything he's got in every game this season. The role appears to suit him a lot. He's a good athlete and he's a player he possesses a lot of skill.
"David has a superb goal-scoring record when you consider he made most of his starts in midfield and, the latter half of last season and this, in defence."
"He can get up and down that side of the pitch. He does give you that extra quality in the final third of the field.
"He's played most of his career there and is used to weighing up attacking options. We've encouraged him to get forward and we've worked with him in the pre-season on that role.
"I'm glad it is working out for David because he had a bit of a rough time last season when a small section of the crowd gave him a bit of stick.
"Now his confidence is restored and he is playing with a real spring in his step. He is not only scoring goals but creating opportunities for his team-mates."
