AN EIGHT-year-old boy is in hospital with serious head injuries after he ran into the road and was hit by a taxi.
Martin Redhead, from George Street, Rishton, is said to be "stable" in Manchester Children's Hospital, Pendlebury. Police said Martin, who attends Rishton Methodist Primary School, ran out from between two parked cars at the junction of Hermitage Street and Derby Street in the town.
He was hit by a Vauxhall Cavalier driven by Alan Rawcliffe from Accrington at about 4.10pm yesterday.
Martin was taken to Blackburn Royal Infirmary but was later transferred to Manchester.
Acting Inspector John O'Reilly, of Accrington Police, said: "We have been told the boy has no brain damage but he has serious head injuries."
