DARWEN is set to reap the benefits of a partnership which has already transformed two troubled areas of Blackburn.
Darwen Employers' Forum - spearheaded by Blackburn Partnership and Blackburn Council - has outlined its plans to bring together local business and the community.
Local councillors, Darwen's MP Janet Anderson, representatives from community associations, the police and a local school have gathered to hear how the initiative will boost their town.
Council leader Malcolm Doherty said: "The advantage of establishing a forum in Darwen is that a strong sense of community identity already exists in the town. "I am convinced this initiative will make important improvements for residents."
The drive is expected to mirror the highly successful forums operating in the Bank Top and Roman Road areas of Blackburn. The key areas on which work will focus include reducing unemployment and crime, providing education and training and improving the environment.
Blackburn Partnership chief executive Peter Robinson said: "The forum has plenty of enthusiasm, expertise and commitment.
"We have a tried and tested formula which can only benefit the community."
The action plan will be discussed at the group's first meeting scheduled to take place next month.
