I WONDER if readers can help me with my hobby of collecting brass embossed colliery lamp checks, or tokens and tallies, as they are sometimes called.
These are brass discs with the name of colliery on them and also the miner's number.
He would draw this check along with his lamp from the lamp room before going down the mine.
I am trying hard to obtain lamp checks from the many former collieries in Lancashire, such as the Bradford, Bedford, Mosley Common, Huncoat, Deerplay, Old Meddows, Albert, Astley Green and Wheatsheaf pits.
I would like to hear from any former miners who once worked at these or any other former collieries and any help given in trying to obtain lamp checks from them would be very much appreciated.
