A HOSPITAL patient who collapsed and died on a garage forecourt after leaving his bed to buy a newspaper has been named.
The coroner had been informed of the death of Peter Hamlet, 61, of Burnley Road East, Waterfoot.
However, results of a post mortem examination revealed he died from natural causes. An inquest will not be held.
Mr Hamlet had orthopaedic surgery after being admitted to Burnley General Hospital on September 3.
He was due to be released yesterday.
He had left the hospital on Sunday wearing a dressing gown and on crutches, but collapsed and died on the Esso forecourt near the Casterton Avenue entrance to the hospital.
