Ossett Albion 2 Accrington Stanley 1

STANLEY bowed out of the FA Cup with no complaints against a defiant Ossett Albion side - two divisions lower in the non-league pecking order.

On a bumpy sloping pitch, football was not the order of the day in this First Qualifying Round replay ... well certainly not for the visitors, much to the frustration of the many travelling Stanley supporters.

As early as the first minute Stanley could easily have had a penalty when a defender handled in the box. Despite this Rob Mulloy saved well from Clark before Brian Welch turned well but saw his shot blocked for a corner.

On 37 minutes a glorious chance fell to Ged Walsh who blasted over the bar from close range.

Just after half-time Stanley had three chances to take the lead with Rawstron, Moulden and Welch all going close. After 57 minutes it seemed like the home side had sussed out how to get behind the visitors' flat paceless defence with balls inside the fullback twice going close. Then a minute later, Ossett did break the deadlock - Mulloy making two saves before Kettlewell scored. On 63 minutes Gilbertson could have made it two but shot wide of the post.

On 80 minutes Moulden put Rawstron through but his shot went wide of the post. Robert Clark chased through, rounded Mulloy and squared for Gilbertson to smash home.

Stanley did hit a consolation from a Darren Thornton corner which substitute Rogerson smashed home.

The goal was little reward to the travelling Stanley supporters, who would have been graceful in defeat had they seen some football, but sadly what bit of football was to be produced came from the home side.
