WHAT is arguably Lancaster's most famous namesake flew over the area this weekend to mark the anniversary of its most celebrated hour. The last remaining Lancaster Bomber soared over the Morecambe promenade on Sunday afternoon - the anniversary of the Battle of Britain - as people on the ground enjoyed Morecambe's Heritage Gala.
The Bomber was joined by its smaller relative the Sptifire in the Morecambe skies, one of just three places in the country to be honoured by an anniversary fly-past.
The RAF agreed to send the Bomber to its spiritual home after a request from Lancaster City Council's arts and events, organisers of the Heritage Gala.
Back on terra firma, hundreds of people enjoyed wandering around the weird and wonderful cars taking part in the Bradford to Morecambe Historic Rally as well as other attractions such as the Dangerous Donut Show, Jelly Rollers and the Smallest Theatre in the World.
