LANCASHIRE County Council is remaining tight-lipped about who the new owners of Darwen Technical School will be.
County bosses have revealed that a company has made a successful bid for the town centre landmark and contracts have been exchanged on a provisional basis.
A spokesman said: "We are unable to say who the buyer is at the moment but contracts have been exchanged and there are a few details that have to be finalised.
"They now have one month to submit a planning application for change of use."
News that one of Darwen's best loved landmarks is set to be saved from demolition has been welcomed by councillor Derek Brindle.
Coun. Brindle has spearheaded the campaign group Darwen Against Demolition for two years to save the building and has had the support of over 6,000 people.
He said: "I am delighted that the building has been saved and an apparent buyer has been found. But until I see a sold sign on the building I will not be entirely happy and will pursue it until the end."
