PLAIN speaking has won the day for Hyndburn Borough Council whose no nonsense council documents have scooped them a top award.
The council's housing report to tenants 1995-1996 earned it a Crystal Mark from the Plain English Campaign.
The Crystal Mark shows that the document has reached a high standard of clarity in its language and design. These standards have been set by the Plain English Campaign - an independent organisation that aims to stamp out all forms of legalese, small print and bureaucratic language. Council leader, councillor George Slynn said: "This is great news and I am pleased with the success the council has achieved. This comes at a time when the public are demanding greater efficiency in everything - and this includes communication."
He added: "Unhelpful letters, confusing bills and meaningless leaflets are some of biggest causes of inefficiency. In pledging our support to plain English we aim to provide a more effective and efficient service for residents."
